Why EPIC Dartmouth should be your FIRST choice for a Long-Distance Triathlon in 2013:

August 28, 2012

Mission Statement

Our singular goal: To produce and deliver the best-value long-distance triathlon in the world.

The Race

EPIC Dartmouth includes three race distances:

AQUA Dartmouth (3.8k / 180k/ 300m) – Featuring the full distance swim and bike, yet only the shortest of runs – It’s the world’s longest Try-A-Tri!  (If you love long-distance events, but for any reason prefer not to run?  This is YOUR race).

EPIC Dartmouth (3.8k / 180k / 21.1k) – The ideal long distance training day in preparation for a late season Iron-distance race, or the perfect long-distance triathlon if you prefer the bike to the run. (There is also a team event for teams of three at the EPIC distance.)

IRON Dartmouth (3.8k / 180k / 42.2k) – The full Iron-distance event, though tougher to complete than an IRONMAN event, due to shorter time cut-offs (must finish within 15 hours to complete).

Ability to switch distances

We are the only Long-distance triathlon in the world that allows competitors to switch between race distances up until race day, and even during the race itself, yet still be full finishers of the event.  “This is a race focused on the Age Group competitors, not Pro-athletes,” said Tim Chesnutt. “The same athlete that has to be back at work on Monday morning, provides for their family, and competes for the pleasure of these events.  We have full on-course support to assist athletes to reach their personal goals, but causing injury to simply to complete a full distance event is neither fun, nor smart – so we allow competitors another option.”

Reasons to sign up early:

Discounted race fee:  Save $100 off your individual or team entry by signing up before Jan 1st, 2013. Fees after that will be $425 for individuals, $575 for teams, and $1350 for charity entries.

Thirteen Months of EPIC:  Each month, a name is drawn from all registered athletes to win an ‘EPIC’ triathlon prize pack.  The first three prizes draws included: four pairs of shoes from New Balance, the complete RCX5 package from Polar, and a JET DISC wheel from HED Wheels. Ten more prizes are yet to be announced and drawn.

EPIC Ambassador Program: Can you help us find athletes that would like to join us? Introduce three friends to the race and receive our custom 2013 EPIC Race Jersey, introduce five and receive the full entire EPIC race kit by way of thanks – even if you can’t personally attend in 2013!

Race Registration Insurance

Worried about losing your entry fee if you get injured and can’t race?  We’ve covered this risk for you by partnering with Competitor 365 to offer a 100% refund if you cannot compete for medical reasons.

We also offer options to defer your race entry to the following year, or to transfer/sell your entry to another competitor.

Charity entries

The official charity of the 2013 Subaru EPIC Dartmouth is the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.  We also offer a charity entry option where YOU chose the charity that will receive the benefits of your efforts.  In 2012, three competitors raised over $7,000 for charity causes important to them.  We’d love to help you use our 2013 EPIC event to raise funds for a charity meaningful to you.

Race Video & Photography

Not just finish line photos, but video and photo of all aspects of the event.  To get a feel for our event have a look at our Race photos and our EPIC Dartmouth channel on YouTube

The Hardware (and Software!)

When you put a lot of effort into a race, it’s nice if the organizers have put some thought into recognizing your effort.  Our 2012 medals were of beautiful quality with a crisp & colourful design celebrating our Canada Day race, while our finisher shirts? Theywere a new material that feels like the best of cotton, but wicks like the best of tech fabrics – and for the ladies, they were all women’s specific cut too (we did the same for our EPIC volunteer shirts).

The Volunteers

With a ratio of nearly 3-1 volunteers to competitors, EPIC competitors raved about the treatment they received on course.  We continued to receive volunteer sign up in the days following our 2012 event with new volunteers wanting to be part of the fun in 2013!

The Friday Night EPIC Welcome Dinner, and Monday EPIC Award Luncheon

Have you been to a pre or post race meal and vowed never again?  So have we!  Our 2012 EPIC Welcome dinner featured Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-free, and Dairy-free option within a broad range of choices – including fresh Nova Scotia Strawberry shortcake for desert.  Our Monday EPIC Awards Luncheon again featured a host of different selections, with the addition of Nova Scotian Hard Shell Lobster!

Discounts!

Discounted airfare with Air Canada, discounted car rentals, discounts on hotel stays with our official host Hampton Inn & Suites, plus options for Camping, RV Rentals, or Home-stay and University residence options for the budget conscious Triathlete
