We got World’s! (Qualifying Spots for the ITU 2013 World Long Course Triathlon Championships!)

December 15, 2011

We got Worlds!

I am super excited to announce that EPIC Dartmouth has been awarded Qualifying Spots for the 2013 World Long Course Triathlon Championships in Belfort, France.  We are hard at work creating this new long-distance Age Grouper race experience, and it is very gratifying to have those efforts recognized by the award of these World Qualifying Spots for our Male & Female Age Group Champions.

Each Age Group Champion (5 yr age groups) in our EPIC Distance event on July 1st, 2012 will be entitled to claim their spot on Team Canada for the 2013 World Long Course Triathlon Championships in Belfort, France.

Here’s how you can join the Triathlon Canada Age Group Long Distance Triathlon World Championship Team for 2013:

You must be a member in good standing of your Provincial Triathlon Association prior to EPIC Dartmouth on July 1st (or you can buy an annual Triathlon Nova Scotia membership at race kit pick-up).

Race our EPIC Distance event and finish 1st in your age group category. Age groups are in 5 year increments with the exception of the 18-19 age groups (20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39 ….)

Note! Because you are qualifying for an event in 2013, the qualification age group is based on your age as of December 31, 2013. All results are therefore age adjusted to reflect your age as of December 31, 2013. Should this mean you will be moving up an age group your application will be evaluated based on the adjusted age group results.

If you complete EPIC Dartmouth with a top Age Group finish, go to www.triathloncanada.com and register for your spot on the 2013 team by completing the on-line registration (see registration time lines on the Triathlon Canada website) .

If you didn’t win your Age Group, there is still a possibility you can get a spot on the team through the “Roll-Down” process.   Register on-line with Triathlon Canada to let them know you are interested in being part of the 2013 Age Group Triathlon World Championship Team in Belfort, France. If the spot you’re vying for does not get “claimed” – the spot is offered to next highest finishing athlete who has requested a spot on the team.

Just for clarity, ITU World’s Qualifying Spots can only be earned by residents of the country where the Qualifying Spots are awarded, so you must be Canadian citizen or Landed Immigrant to win these spots on Team Canada at EPIC Dartmouth 2012.
