For the third year running, the Subaru EPIC Dartmouth Triathlon has been selected as a qualifying event for the ITU Long-Course World Championships.
All individual competitors entered at either the EPIC or IRON distance events will have the opportunity to claim a spot on Team Canada, and represent their country at the 2015 ITU Long-Course World Championships in Motala, Sweden. There is one Qualifying Spot awarded per Age Group Category, determined by finishing times at the EPIC distance. For those participants competing at the IRON distance, we will use their times crossing the 21.1k point of the run (the EPIC distance) for purposes of awarding these Qualifying Spots.
The World Championships is the biggest event on the ITU long distance triathlon calendar and will be held in Motala, Sweden in 2015. Situated between larger cities Stockholm and Gothenburg alongside beautiful Lake Vattern, Motala will become the second Swedish city to stage the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships, with Sater having hosted the 1999 and 2004 championships.
Event organizers plan a 2-lap 4km swim, 3-lap 120km bike, and 3-lap 30km course for the 21st edition of one of the most gruelling events on the ITU schedule. This year, 2014, the long distance world champions will be decided in Weihai, China.
