On Wednesday, I met with Halifax Regional Municipality’s Special Events Task Force (SETF) regarding EPIC Dartmouth 2012.
I had never heard of this group before, but what a great concept and excellent execution.
Once a month, HRM brings representatives of all the city departments together in one place to listen, review, and comment on planned special events in the city. What an amazingly cordinated idea!
In a single meeting I was able to meet representatives from about fifteen departments: the obvious ones like Police, Traffic, and Parks, but also ones that hadn’t occurred to me yet: Fire Services (would you like us to supply an on water rescue team for your swim?), Solid Waste Resources (would you like recycling receptacles for all your spectating areas?), Business development (can we help introduce you to the local business groups?) Capital Health (will you require medical personal for your event?) .
Out of this twenty minute meeting, I now have meetings set up to start the process with each of the individual departments that can help us get this event a solid foundation for success not just this year, but for years to come.
